About the tool
What is the SBMM Bulk Domain Rating Checker?
The SBMM Bulk Domain Rating Checker is a free online tool that pulls the real Ahrefs Domain Rating (DR) for up to 100 domains in a single run. Paste a list of URLs or bare domains, hit Check, and get a sortable per-domain table with the DR score, a rating label, an average and median for the batch, and a six-bucket distribution chart that shows the shape of your prospect list at a glance.
Domain Rating is the Ahrefs authority metric that scores any website on a 0 to 100 logarithmic scale based on the size and quality of its backlink profile. It is the most widely cited authority metric in modern SEO, the input every outreach SEO uses to filter prospects, the number guest-post platforms quote in their inventory, and the standard the wider industry compares competing domains by. Checking it one domain at a time on the Ahrefs marketing page is fine for two or three sites; for any real outreach or competitive workflow you need bulk.
This tool fixes that. It dedupes your paste, normalises bare domains and full URLs to their registrable form, queries the Ahrefs free DR endpoint in parallel batches, and returns the full report in seconds. The free tier processes 100 domains per run with no daily cap, so a normal week of outreach prospecting, broken-link link building, or competitor sweeps all fit comfortably. Pair it with our Backlink Audit for live-link verification, or the Bulk Meta Extractor for title and description scraping across the same list.
Step by step
How to use this tool in 3 steps
-
Step 01
Paste your domain list
Drop up to 100 domains or URLs (one per line, or comma / space separated) into the form. Bare domains (example.com), full URLs (https://example.com/path), and messy spreadsheet paste with mixed case or trailing slashes all get normalised to the registrable domain before query.
-
Step 02
Parallel DR lookup against Ahrefs
The tool dedupes the list, sends each unique domain to the Ahrefs free Domain Rating endpoint in parallel batches, retries any rate-limited requests with exponential backoff, and assembles the result table while you wait.
-
Step 03
Sort, filter, export
See the per-domain table sorted by DR by default. Click a column header to re-sort, type into the filter box to narrow by partial domain name, copy the full list to clipboard, or download a CSV ready for your outreach spreadsheet or CRM.
Why this tool
Why use this tool
-
Real Ahrefs Domain Rating
Pulls the live DR value direct from the Ahrefs free Domain Rating API for every unique domain. Same number Ahrefs shows on its public website authority checker, scored on the standard 0 to 100 logarithmic scale.
-
100 domains per run on free tier
Process a full prospect list, a competitor sweep, or a broken-link link-building hit list in a single paste. The SBMM authed tier inside the LMS lifts that to 500 per run for larger audits.
-
Average, median, highest, lowest
Every batch returns headline stats so you can grade the list at a glance: average DR, median DR, the top scorer, the weakest entry, and a count of any domains the upstream API could not resolve.
-
Six-bucket DR distribution chart
A visual distribution across DR 0 to 9, 10 to 29, 30 to 49, 50 to 69, 70 to 89, and 90 to 100 shows the shape of your prospect list. Lopsided distributions surface immediately, so you spot a list dominated by weak domains before you waste outreach time on it.
-
Smart input normalisation
Accepts bare domains, full URLs, mixed case, trailing slashes, www prefixes, paths, query strings, and any combination of newline, comma, semicolon, or space separation. The tool strips everything down to the registrable domain and dedupes before query.
-
Sort, filter, copy, CSV export
The per-domain table sorts by either column, filters by partial domain name, copies the full list to clipboard with one click, and exports a CSV ready to drop into Google Sheets, Excel, Airtable, or a CRM workflow.
-
Unlimited free runs
No daily cap on the free tier. Run as many bulk DR checks per day as your workflow needs. A per-minute burst limit and the 100 URL per-run cap keep upstream costs bounded for everyone.
-
No sign-up, no email gate
Free for everyone, with no account required, no email capture, and no credit card. Bookmark it, run it from any device, share it with your team.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is Domain Rating (DR) in SEO?
Domain Rating is the Ahrefs authority metric that scores any website on a 0 to 100 logarithmic scale based on the size and quality of its backlink profile. A DR 30 site has a noticeably weaker backlink profile than a DR 60 site, which in turn is dwarfed by a DR 90 site. DR is widely used to filter outreach prospects, to qualify guest-post placements, and to compare competing sites at a glance.
Is this the real Ahrefs Domain Rating?
Yes. The tool queries the Ahrefs free Domain Rating endpoint that powers the public Ahrefs website authority checker. The DR value returned for every domain is the same number you would see on Ahrefs.com if you typed each domain into their public form one at a time. The only difference is bulk: you get 100 domains per run instead of one.
How is Domain Rating different from Domain Authority?
Domain Rating (DR) is Ahrefs proprietary score. Domain Authority (DA) is Moz proprietary score. Both estimate site-level authority from the backlink profile, both run on a 0 to 100 logarithmic scale, but the underlying index and weighting differ. Most SEO professionals quote DR more often now because the Ahrefs index is larger and refreshed faster than the Moz index.
How accurate is DR as a ranking signal?
DR is a directional signal, not a ranking guarantee. Google does not use DR (or DA) directly; it has its own internal PageRank-style metric. DR correlates with ranking strength because the underlying backlink profile drives both, but a high-DR domain with thin content will still lose to a focused low-DR site with strong topical authority for the right query. Use DR for outreach filtering and competitive triage, not as a sole ranking predictor.
How many domains can I check at once?
The free tier processes 100 unique domains per run with no daily cap on the number of runs. Duplicate entries in your paste are collapsed automatically, so you only burn a slot on each unique registrable domain. The SBMM authed tier inside the LMS raises the per-run cap to 500 for larger competitor sweeps and prospect lists.
Does the tool accept full URLs or only domains?
Both. Paste anything: bare domains (example.com), full URLs (https://example.com/some/path?query=1), mixed case, www prefixes, trailing slashes, port numbers, query strings, fragment anchors, comma separation, semicolon separation, newline separation. The tool strips each entry to its registrable domain (the part Ahrefs scores) and dedupes before query.
Why do some domains come back as "not found" or with no DR?
A small fraction of newly registered, parked, or never-linked domains have no Ahrefs DR yet because the Ahrefs index has not yet seen any backlinks pointing to them. The tool surfaces these as "not_found" rows so the batch summary stays honest. Brand-new domains usually pick up a DR within a few months once the first backlinks land.
How fast is a 100-domain run?
A typical 100-domain run completes in 15 to 45 seconds, depending on Ahrefs response time and any rate-limit backoff. The tool sends requests in parallel batches and surfaces results to the table as they land, so you can start scanning the early rows before the slowest few finish.
Is there a daily limit?
No daily cap on the free tier. There is a per-minute burst limit (3 runs per minute per IP) and the per-run cap of 100 domains, both of which protect Ahrefs from runaway traffic. For normal SEO workflows neither cap is reached.
What is the difference vs the LMS authed tier?
The free public tool processes 100 domains per run. The SBMM LMS authed tier (available to anyone in a batch with SEO Tools enabled) processes 500 domains per run with no per-minute burst cap. Both surfaces ship the same result UI (headline tiles, distribution chart, sortable table, CSV export). The LMS tier is the right surface for large competitor audits and outreach lists.
Can I export the results?
Yes. The result table has a Copy All button that writes a tab-separated list (domain + DR) to your clipboard, ready for paste into Sheets or Excel, plus a Download CSV button that ships a UTF-8 CSV file with the domain, DR value, and status per row, ready to import into a CRM, an Airtable base, or a Notion table.
